Although I liked some parts of this book I honestly found it annoying for the most part in that the author seems to have forgotten what it is like to be a struggling single mom. For instance, she suggests setting aside 10% of your monthly income for groceries. Really? My income is about 800 a month so I'm supposed to feed me and my son on 80 bucks a month? She also suggests paying someone to do your laundry--really? How many single moms can do that? I understand her logic when she states that you should spend that time doing something to enhance your life/future rather than on the mundane task of laundry or housekeeping but has she completely lost touch with reality that the single moms face?

I thought this book was just meh. I felt like she harped a lot about not worrying about child support and that "pittance of three hundred dollars a month." For a lot of people that'ts not pocket change, it's money for daycare, housing, etc. She also talks a lot about outsourcing tasks to save time( sending out laundry, getting house cleaned) maybe if your making 6 figures that's doable but not for most. Also most of the women she quotes went from nothing to successful 6 figure incomes. I was hoping it would cover middle income to high income at the least, but this is more about other women who have achieved her level of success, which is fine, but not what I was looking for

I really wanted to like this book. I follow Emma’s blog and facebook group, so I was excited for her book to come out. Overall, I love her message about single Mom empowerment and her positive, upbeat tone. However, the text is very preachy in parts, and often makes it seem like there’s only one way (her way) to be a happy, successful single mom. It feels very holier than thou, and implies that if you’re making choices different from the ones she describes in the book, then you’re doing something wrong. Additionally, the entire book speaks as though all single mothers have options like money to pay for childcare, housekeepers, and other things that will make their lives easier, when in reality that is far from true for many women. Overall, it left a bad taste in my mouth.

I like the message she has in this book about empowerment. Even in this day and age, many single moms, like myself, can still feel the stigma of not being married. My problem with this book is that it seems to apply to women who are high income, such as herself. Saying that we should “outsource” things like laundry and housekeeping is something that is not possible for the majority of us. My even bigger issue with this book is her negative view of alimony and child support. So I worked for 10 years being a SAHM, putting the break in my career, didn’t go to school and suddenly I’m supposed to say no to alimony and child support? Seriously? And many of us don’t have a co-parenting arrangement with our ex’s despite our best efforts to have them involved. Many times their “involvement” in raising their kids is just financial. If you earn 6 figures and have a negative view of other single moms who dare get alimony and child support, this is your book. Otherwise, get a book by someone who doesn’t talk to you like your mooching off your ex. Ugh.

Don't waste your money - the author's guidance isn't realistic for most single moms. She's preachy and doesn't actually provide any "how to" with her "what to do" advice. Super disappointed with my purchase (and I got it twice - electronic and paper copy). There has to be better books for single moms who don't want to focus so much on being a millionaire with 'casual' relationships.

Although I like her general tone and message of empowering women, I think the book comes off as preachy and berating to single moms. She talks about the negatives of child support and alimony without taking into account the NUMEROUS ways marriages grow and end. She seems to use her experience as the template for how all couples should act in divorce and coparent going forward. Some wives give up career advancement to stay at home, others, like myself, put their income into buying a house and paying off a husband's debt, some experience abuse ... Taking and wanting child support and/or alimony doesn't make you a greedy bitch and somehow that's how her tone comes off. Sure, if we all made 6 figures, it might work to not have either - but most single moms are not in that position. She also has an entire chapter about outsourcing help like laundry and cleaning. That's totally unrealistic for moms just trying to pay for necessities. Not everyone lives in a huge city and freelances or can find readily available extra income just by working hard. There are women working minimum wage, but working their asses off, because that's all they can access for a variety of reasons. I wanted to get some really good advice from this - and there is some - but I don't want it at the expense of feeling shitty about myself because I don't make a ton of money (although I work full time and do side work) or because I think my children deserve child support. While I was once a fan of her blog and FB group, I've been turned off my the way people that have opposing viewpoints are treated by her. It seems to be - YAY single women have a great life - so long as you agree with everything I say about how you should live and act as a parent/divorcee. There are far too many supportive, informative people out there to take advice from about building your life in a positive and productive way as a single parent, but more importantly, as a person that deserves respect.

Reading this book is like having a financial coach on your shoulder, coaxing you out of your anxieties, helping you own your power, and supporting you every step of the way. Emma's no-nonsense approach to kickass single motherhood is a must-read for anyone who wants to take control of their futures and gain financial freedom.
