I bought this a few years back and then recently purchased another on Amazon. I have one in my classroom and have now started giving them as gifts to people who see mine and love the idea. This one is great, the states are in different colors so this is great for kids. With that said, it is great for adults too, as it doesn't look child-like; it is great for all ages. Once you put the quarter in though, it is tough to get out (you have to pry it out-though it is not impossible), so be sure that if kids are putting them in that you double check first that they are putting the quarter in the right location. Also, this particular map is the best I've seen, and I have seen another one that looks similar, but isn't this one; even when you look at the pictures, two different maps are shown...be sure you are buying the Whitman State Series listed since I notice there are more than one seller. Anyway, have fun, this is really a great purchase, nice quality, not too expensive, and something you could keep on a shelf or display since the colors aren't too bright and it has a hole in the top corners so you could hang it.

My boyfriend is a transfer student and I bought him this to help him organize the quarters as he tries to collect them all. He had been taping them to the wall before, so when I found this map that would display them on the wall it was perfect.I'm quite pleased with it. I see other people have complained about getting the cardboard place-holders out of the map to put the quarters in. My suggestion is to use a sharp knife and patience. After a learning curve we were able to get them out without damaging the map or anything else (he wanted to keep the cardboard inserts for a separate project). We've not tried to remove any quarters we put in, so I can't vouch for that, but I suspect the knife would work just as well.Great for the money. Even if we don't find all the quarters it's a great way to display the rest of them. I'd recommend it.

Just received these (I bought two) and my 6 year old has scoured the house for all the quarters she can find. We're learning the dates each became a state, the seal of each state, and it even includes the American Territories which is a bit more learning. The folder is hard and durable and once the quarters go in, they're not coming out! (We tried). Incidentally we put a couple of National Park Quarters into the states without realizing they were National Park Quarters. So now I'm off to find a similar item to begin our collection of the National Park Quarters . . . and I need another one of these since my soon to be 3 year old would like her own too!

I needed a quarter map for awhile and researched to find the best one. I finally ordered this one and was pleasantly surprised when I received it. The colors are beautiful and the map is very sturdy. Once the quarters go in they are in for good. My kids and I (14, 11 and 8) all put the quarters in together and had a great time. Now I realize I only need 5 more states and 3 more territories. Before the map they were all in a bag in my dresser and everytime someone gave me a quarter I had to go and dig them all out if I wasn't sure whether I had it or not. This map also has hanging holes, which will allow me to hang it on the wall once I have completed the map. Good product Whitman!!

My 5 year old son is very interested in geography and after losing his first tooth and getting quarters from the tooth fairy, he realized there are state quarters and immediately wanted to collect them all. So I came on here looking for something that would be easy for him to keep track of which states he had and also make a nice display piece for when it was full and this was perfect. Great price, great product. It came in the mail last night and he got all 27 of his quarters in it right away (with help from dad) and cannot wait to collect the remaining ones. We love it!

I was a bit surprised when I first received this map because it is much bigger than I expected, but that certainly means something cool for a collector if you want to show off your collection. The black background looks nice too. The quality of the paper is not that ideal when you are digging out the lids for coin spots. Also the spots for coins are originally filled with the state symbols, which makes me a bit sad to get them out. But after all it's a nice map.

I wanted to give my 11 year old daughter a map to collect state quarters. I decided on this product because it was visually appealing, inexpensive, and it had spots for the US territories (Guam, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, etc.). My daughter loves this map! We enjoy finding new quarters together so we can put them in the display. This is a good buy for the first-time coin collector or for someone wanting to start a fun family project.

I ordered it as a gift, but was not happy with the item, as the colorful paper is on the wrapped plastic only. The map is dark grey color, heavy, and not nice to give to some collector as a gift. I tried to return it back, but the company would charge again for the shipping, so the shipping would be more money than item by itself. So, I have to try to sell it or to give away. It was waist of my time and money for it.

In "The American Way of Death Revisited," journalist and muckracker Jessica Mitford presents a searing exposé of the "death-care" industries, particularly funeral homes/directors and cemeteries. She potently argues that many death-care workers, rather than looking out for their customers' best interests, are more concerned about their bottom lines; that the FTC has failed to curb manipulative and downright illegal sales techniques engaged in by these businesses; that many of our assumptions about funerary practices are wrong; and that consumers should actively take part in honoring their dearly departed, rather than turning the task (and thousands of dollars) over to McMortuaries.With the help of undercover investigations, disgruntled death-care workers, and grieving families who fell prey to unscrupulous death-care workers, Ms. Mitford details the manipulative, deceitful, and sometimes illegal tactics that death-care workers use to trump their competitors in an increasingly oversaturated market. We're even treated to shocking statements right from the horses' mouths: the authors offers a multitude of quotes pulled straight from the trade journals, such as "The Director," "Mortuary Management," "Casket & Sunnyside," and (my personal favorite) "American Professional Embalmer."In "The American Way of Death Revisited," we learn the following:* Although funeral directors would like you to believe otherwise, embalming is neither required by state law nor essential to public health.* Again contrary to the fibs of the "funeral men" (as Ms. Mitford ominously refers to them), citizens are free to scatter "cremains" wherever they so choose (the state of California is the lone exception) - it is not necessary to bury them, store them in a pricey urn, or pay someone to scatter them. Nor is it required that your loved one be cremated in a casket - a cardboard or pine box or shroud does just as well.* The purchase of "pre-need" plans usually serve as in invitation for the old "bait-and-switch" trick; by the time you pass away, the casket you initially paid for is no longer available. Thus, your grieving relatives are forced to choose between a free yet inferior substitute - or an "upgrade" for a fee.* Open casket funerals are a rather new invention, and are unique to the United States. Although funeral directors assert that a public viewing (of an embalmed corpse, of course) is necessary for healing in the survivors, they cannot produce one documented, scientific study to support this claim. Nor are they licensed psychologists; strangely, this does not prevent them from charging customers for "grief counseling."* As in many other industries, the ownership of funeral homes and cemeteries is becoming concentrated in the hands of a few massive McMonopolies. In some areas of the country, as many as 70% of the funeral homes may be owned by one company (talk about price fixing!). Even more infuriating are the companies' attempts to conceal ownership from consumers; they would much rather have you believe that you're purchasing a plan from kindly old "Uncle" Jack, who handled your grandmother's funeral arrangements so many years ago.Of course, these are but a few of the insidious practices engaged in by the "funeral men." The author manages to fill a full 274 pages with the others.Ms. Mitford also explains where the Federal Trade Commission was (and has been) while millions of Americans were (are) being ripped off during their time of utmost vulnerability. The answer certainly won't give you much faith in the current state of our government (unless you share Mark Twain's sentiments: "I think I can say, and say with pride, that we have legislatures that bring higher prices than any in the world.")."The American Way of Death Revisited" is actually a revised and updated version of 1963's "The American Way of Death." While Ms. Mitford does offer some new information and insight, including more on the FTC and the development of McMortuaries, much of the information is dated. For example, many of the price quotes are still in 1960s currency. For this reason alone, I'd give the book 4.5 stars rather than 5.Nonetheless, "The American Way of Death Revisited" is an impressive and shocking piece of work. It's interesting to note how the "American Way of Death" is a relative recent phenomenon, and not a longstanding tradition, as those in the industry would have you believe. England is proud to boast that they're 50 years behind us in their funerary practices; let's hope that, through collective action, we can regress even further back than 50 years, to the days of simple pine coffins and home viewings.

I bought this book out of curiosity. I had experience the funeral sales pitch back in 1990 when my father unexpectedly died of a massive heart attack overnight. The entire family was in shock. I recall when we had gone to the local mortician to arrange my dad's funeral. We were in a fog when we walked in and spoke to one of the funeral directors. Did they ask us if we wanted him embalmed? I don't recall, and even though it was a closed casket funeral, he was still embalmed (and we were charged for it.) I do recall vividly the 'show room' of coffins. I almost reeled back when the director opened the door to let us in so that we could pick one. The price tags on the coffins caused sticker shock. There were no simple pine box coffins. Only the luxury models with the cushioned interior. I picked the one with the lowest price tag that still ran in the thousands. Did we ask for prayer cards? I don't recall. But they were included in the package deal. The funeral was held in one of their rooms there at the mortuary. I believe the cost was around $7,000 and that did not include the cemetery plot or the headstone.Although the prices in this book are outdated, the facts of how the business is run has changed very little. My advice to anyone who has to visit a mortuary to prepare a loved one's funeral: KNOW what you want, and how much you can afford before you go in and stick to your plan and budget. Discuss the funeral with a good friend, and ask your friend to accompany you to help you through the arrangements and to insure that the director doesn't sell you anything unnecessary. (Trust me, all common sense leaves you in a time of grief.) Thank you Jessica Mitford for your dedicated research for this book. After experiencing two recent funerals about 4 years apart and reading a little about the American way of funerals versus the rest of the world I felt compelled to know what happens to you and your body when you die. It is a horrifying description that will happen to your body unless you leave very specific instructions of what is to be done to your remains immediately upon your demise. Three hours later is too late. You will be embalmed (not an easy read for the squeamish) and your family subjected to extreme price gouging at a time when all they think they want to do is "the right thing". Annual profits are 41% at some of the larger Funeral Home holding corporations. There is no law to embalm, except when the body cross's state lines. You will learn a lot and I instructed my family what to do and how to do it with what I learned in this book.

People need to read this long BEFORE they are faced with funereal business. I'm fortunate in that I live in a small town with a locally-owned, secind generation funeral home. They respect their client's wishes and don't try to sell what isn't needed. The owner has read this book, as well, and loves it!

Have known about this book for years and finally got around to reading it. Mitford really exposes the funeral industry for what it is: crooked & opportunistic. But, this book is tedious to read because she goes on and on and on about every single detail. Still, worth reading and very funny, at times.

Very comprehensive, it starts of with non-anesthesiology subjects, like legal advice, physician-pacient relationship, history of anesthesiology. When it came to the proper subject it is richly described, understandable, deep, and very "catchy", don't get me wrong, but most textbooks get me tired after a few hours of reading, but this one just keeps me going.

Frank M White is Professor Emeritus of Mechanical and Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. He studied at Georgia Tech and M.I.T. In 1966 he helped found, at URI, the first department of ocean engineering in the country. Known primarily as a teacher and writer, he has received eight teaching awards and has written four textbooks on fluid mechanics and heat transfer. I have to state a few things before I go into this review. At my university this course is supposed to come after calculus 3 (vector calculus i.e. triple and double integration, vector fields, etc) and after differential equations. Also usually after a numerical analysis course, I took a graduate level numerical analysis and methods course before I started this course. I also had DE and linear algebra finished so overall my math background is very solid. I also took physics up to quantum for electives so my physics background is also solid.With all that being said this book takes a physics and mathematical approach over the standard engineering textbooks out there. So a lot of the equations that it derives at times will be a little different then what you will use on problems. You will also need to know to make a lot of assumptions that it never goes over. This is where a strong professor comes in. You will need to take a professor that not only derives equations but explains the assumptions for each type of problem. This will cause a lot of the double and triple integrals to become a simple integration many times. There are quite a number of times you will need to know how to set up a differential equation and also be able to solve it using different methods. There are problems were you will need to interpolate a function over a interval [a,b] in order to derive an answer. Linear systems for multiple unknowns are common in some problems as well.The problems lies in the fact that the examples in the book are VERY weak at times and do not show how to go about doing a lot of these things that I mentioned. This means that you are limited in teaching yourself, unless of course you use the solution manual, which also skips many steps. You will need to fill in the steps yourself. Also don't think you can run to Chegg a lot of their answers are wrong and also skip steps, since Chegg just copies the solution manual for 95% of problems.Overall it is a good book if you have a solid foundation but if you are missing courses that this book assumes you have taken you may be in for a rough ride. I cannot give it five stars since I believe a textbook should be able to teach a student 80% of material in a course especially at the price charged.Hope this helps!

Five years ago, I took my first course in fluid mechanics using this book by F. White; now I am a graduate student in the field. This book was the first to instill upon me a desire to pursue advanced studies in the dynamics of fluids.The major strength of this book is that it is remarkably un-assuming of the reader. Most of the topics discussed are self-contained with much of the physics and mathematics expressed within accessible bounds to a young, becoming Mechanical Engineer. In particular, the book contains many good, fully worked-out examples and problems.To begin, the first section is on hydrostatics, and although the physics is fairly simple, we observe how to deal with the difficulties of handling the geometry of the system. In particular, we learn how to calculate force and moment on a dam of varying profile.The next section focuses on control volume (CV) analysis: this systematic technique of problem solving is perhaps the monkey wrench of mechanical engineering. A very very large number of problems can be solved with this approach, and many more can be approximated with it. F. White does a fantastic job of using CV analysis with regards to the most important physical quantities: momentum, moment, energy, and mass. Again, the book is filled with a number of fully-worked examples and even more end-of-chapter problems.We next move into the heart of fluid dynamics, that is the differential equations of momentum and mass. Here, the author takes a lot of care in deriving the partial differential equations (PDE's) with the aid of numerous illustrations. Illustrations in engineering context cannot be under-estimated, and the author seems whole-heartedly agree. Although the equations of motion are not derived in the most fundamental way, it is quite insightful and wholly sufficient for an engineer beginning their training. In this way, however, I believe that physics students *would not benefit* from this approach. Although I am ignorant of resources more germane to their field of study, I cannot recommend this text to them.The last topic I will include in this review regards the coverage of viscous effects in duct flow. This will most likely be the students first foray into non-dimensional parameters and the text justifiably over-emphasizes its importance. When I first studied this topic in class, the purpose of non-dimensionalising variables seemed abstruse and round-about; however, today I am very grateful for the efforts spent on this mode of thought since I can now appreciate the science of approximation and the error associated with the computation of quantities of various orders of magnitude.The text covers a few more topics, but the key engineering tools are mentioned above. For a more advanced/thorough/mathematical text, look to Kundu's classical book "Fluid Mechanics" as a follow-up.

I used this book for an undergrad fluid mechanics course. The book is well written, however I eventually gave up on trying to read and understand it. It seems is written by a really smart person and most of the time I found the material in the book to be over my head. A lot of my classmates thought the same thing too. I often thought that this textbook is more suited for graduate level students.However the book keeps true to fluid mechanics and does not include a lot of unnecessary "filler" material that some textbooks do.By filler material I mean stuff that is related to the subject but not necessary for the the understanding of the material.

I use this book in my first grade classroom to teach non-fiction text features and How To writing. It works well because it has a simple, straightforward format and deals with an item that students use every day. I like that the book, although short, has important examples of non-fiction features: a table of contents, important words in bold print, a glossary, and photographs. A good book for early elementary students.

Great book, my students loved it so I had to purchase it.

This is a good book for young readers to take AR tests on. It is simple with challenging words and they learn something valuable.

I used this book when discussing where things come from with my kindergarten students. I liked it, but the pictures used seemed like they were from a small crayon making factory rather than a large one like Crayola or RoseArt.

It's been a long time since a book kept me up late, fearing for its characters, hoping, despite the odds, for the best. Tara Masih deftly weaves research into an original storythat feels real and frighteningly immediate. The book is classified as YA but is one of those gems that adults will enjoy and would be an appropriate addition to the literature and social studies classrooms as well as the bedstand. The author's "Historical Note," perfectly expressing why this story and all stories matter, offers numerous directions for further study of real events. I was previously unaware of the heartbreaking plight of Ukranian Jews forced into caves and now, as other reviewers have noted, I am deeply and forever moved.

This book for young adults (and older) is based on the true story of the Stermer family, who were in the five percent of Jews surviving the Holocaust in the Ukraine, out of a total of between 1.2 and 1.6 million Jews. (Many Ukrainians died during the war period as well but they were not targeted by the Einsatzgruppen, or Nazi advance troops, whose mission was primarily to kill Jews in advance of the arrival of German troops.) A large number of Ukrainians collaborated with the Nazis, but Yad Vashem - the World Holocaust Remembrance Center - has some 2,600 Ukrainians registered as “righteous Gentiles” who helped save Jews. [N.B.: the population of the Ukraine in 1939 was 40 million.]In this story, the Slivka family is helped by some of those righteous gentiles, as was the case, in real life, with the Stermer family. It is difficult to see how anyone could have survived at all otherwise.When the book begins, Hanna Slivka, the narrator, is about to tell her history to her daughter, so we know that at least she herself survived. She begins her story in 1941 when she was age 13, before the Nazis arrived in her small town of Kwasova in the Ukraine.Hanna is close to an older gentile neighbor, Alla Petrovich, who lets Hanna help her make her pysanky eggs (what we call Ukrainian Easter eggs). Later, Alla helps the Slivka family escape from the Nazis, first by giving them a cross to put on their doorway, and later, by giving them what little food and monetary help she can give.But the Gestapo are relentless, determined to make the area *Judenfrei*, free of all Jews.Before long, Hanna and her family have to go into hiding, first into a crude cabin deep in the woods, and later inside deep and dark underground caves. There the Slivkas stay for almost 400 days, although the Stermers stayed even longer - over 500 days!Throughout their time of both figurative and literal darkness, Hanna’s papa counseled them to keep hopeful, not to lose faith, and not to become like their oppressors. Hanna learned from him: “Life is not good, however you are living it, if you become like those who don’t value you.” And there was an additional important incentive to carry them through. When Hanna’s mama first saw the cave and muttered, “I have never lived on dirt,” Papa said to her:“This is what those Nazis make us do, huh? Live like barbarians. But the best revenge, my Eva, is just that - to live. . . ."Discussion: This story that is set in the Ukraine rather than in the usual countries covered by Holocaust fiction provides a much-needed perspective on what took place in the Nazi vanguard into Russia early on in World War II. This is one of the most inspirational stories you will read, and is not at all depressing or scary in the way some stories about the Holocaust can be. Rather, it is a story of defiance and resilience, and about carving out a path not only for coping with evil, but managing, against all odds, to outlast it.Evaluation: As the author said in her Historical Note at the end of the book about the Stermer’s experience, “their family story of survival and transcendence would not let me go.” Neither will Hanna’s story. The subject is difficult, but insofar as it really happened (though just not to these made-up characters) it is so important that people know about it.

The pleasure began just seeing the cover and holding the book in my hand. The font was beautiful and easy to read on high quality paper. Every detail was considered. Just holding the book in your hand you would know of its importance and that it was thoughtfully made to be lovingly cared for as the treasure it is. Though it was written with young readers twelve or older in mind the story telling and writing will crack your heart open as well. I read this book in the wake of the mass shootings in the Synagogue in Pittsburg. Intolerance is around every corner so the need for the young to develop understanding and empathy is critical. Resilience of the Human Spirit never ceases to amaze me, never more so than in the darkest of times. Get this book, give this book, and tell others about this book.

This novel is a thoughtful and tender portrayal of a young Jewish girl's coming of age in Nazi-occupied Ukraine. The suspenseful narrative deftly voices Hanna's growing awareness of her family's and her community's peril and the desperate circumstances that precipitate their flight. At a time when it is subversive to dare to stay alive and a crime to be kind to those singled out for removal and extermination by the occupying regime, Hanna and her family are forced into hiding and starvation. But Hanna and her family never give up on love--for one another and for their friends who defy the authorities to help them--nor do they abandon hope.Ultimately uplifting, this novel is an excellent read and a good bridge to an age-appropriate discussion about institutionalized intolerance and genocide.

I really enjoyed this book. I’ve read the author’s story collection, Where the Dog Star Never Glows, as well as some of her flash fiction. So I was already a big fan of her writing style. This book is a turn in a different direction and fits the YA genre quite nicely. My Real Name is Hanna is a beautiful read which both young and old readers will enjoy. It impressed upon me the great need that we all share across the globe: love and tolerance for one another in this broken world where ideologies and religious views clash. I think this book would be a wonderful addition in a young reader’s collection, or anyone who likes historical fiction and a story of beauty amidst the darkest of times in human history.

Speaks from a position of immense privilege and lack of empathy. Avoid at all costs.

I don't condone plagiarism. Therefore, I'll be returning this book. The author apologized that her team and writers didn't credit people. So who wrote the book? She admitted to this and it can be found online. A lot of Christian writers use ghost writers. That's fine. Did she and her publisher skip the taking of other writers words and claiming them as her idea as no one will notice? I'm very disappointed.

Regurgitated content from Girl, Wash Your Face and all her other social media. Nothing important or relevant to anyone with their own mind and opinions.

This is Rachel's second book and just like her first book it is being marketed to both a Christian and secular audience. But the contents give one cause for alarm as there are many anti-biblical principles and thought processes that raise some serious red flags. Just like her first book, she is putting herself and her life above all else and presenting this as the way to live even if you are a Christian.(which is secular humanism). If you read reviews on the Gospel Coalition and elsewhere they will confirm that the principles touted in this and her previous book are not Biblical. It's very sad to see people with a platform use it for personal glory and advancement and then claim to be a Christian. Once again, if this were being marketed to an exclusive secular audience then the views presented would be pretty typical. If you're a Christian however, you will find the contents to be contrary to the Bible.

Very disappointed with the language in this book!

It's like every motivational and self help speaker you ever listened to got quoted (but not necessarily credited) here.And sadly, for a book published by a Christian publisher and authored by a professing believer, there is a noticeable lack of Biblical support, some profanity, and ideas that just aren't compatible with the Christian walk.I just can't recommend this to anyone.

I read this book a few weeks ago and I had to jump on here and write a review for those looking to purchase now that it’s officually available. First let me start by saying I’m usually the person who will read a book in one day. But I spread this one out so I could savor it and really absorb what our pal Rach was saying. If you are a woman with dreams and goals then you should read this book. Even if you’re not a woman or you don’t have dreams and goals then you should still read this book. Rachel Hollis gives you information that, if you’re like me, you already know in the back of your mind. But she makes you think about it in a new perspective. And she encourages and inspires you to take action. A must read for anyone looking to do better in any regard. 10/10 is recommend this to everyone.

Amazing Book! Got both the Audible and the actual book and I love listening to Rachel read the book to me. This is what I did with Girl, Wash Your Face and I now hear her in my head motivating me. I totally recommend this book if you feel that you are to be doing bigger and better things with your life but you can’t get past yourself.
