This is a very detailed, how-to guide that provides wonderful guidance in setting up your own trip to the Loire, Normandy and Paris. You don't have to slavishly follow the itinerary to find value in the suggestions made. In particular, their hotel and restaurant recommendations will be useful to anyone travelling to the area.

Fun to read. Jam packed with great travel tips and a philosophy of travel that will be useful anywhere I wander around the globe. Added bonus is the example of applying those ideas to this particular trip to France. I'd love to take that trip someday, but I mostly like that I have all this good advice paired with a concrete example. I feel empowered to build my own flexible and engaging trip to anywhere.

Being a bit of a Francophile myself, the vacation outlined is a great one with unique places and activities along the way. Even though I typically don't plan down to the detail provided in the book, it provides many, many ideas that I will incorporate into my next trip to France. This is a great guide for those that don't want to take a tour but are unsure about how easy or hard it will be to travel on their own. With the book as your guide, you can travel with confidence.There are extensive web references and many tips, pointers that even seasoned travelers will appreciate. The arrangements and preparation sections in the back are excellent. I can't wait until my next trip to throw the book in my pack and head to France!

This is a great handbook for any preacher. It is seriously a handbook for the church. It gives great reminders and ideas for those that have been in a church for years and for those who have either just planted a church or that have taken over the reigns as lead pastor. Some of the greatest advice in the book focuses not only on the theological implications of the different methodologies in the church but in exactly how to implement different things in churches so that you don't scare off the sheep.This book is amazing in its practical instruction on certain issues, even the particulars of how to run an elders meeting. So, it is truly designed for use throughout one's ministry and to be used almost as an encyclopedia of sorts of a "how to" for the local church. The book is broken up into four parts:Part I: Gathering the ChurchIn general this section focuses on expository preaching, prayer, missions, membership and disciplinePart II: When the Church GathersThis section focuses on worship and the regulative principle of worship, the ordinances, the role of the pastor, etc.Part III: Gathering EldersThis section focuses on things such as the biblical mandate for elders, the searching for those men, staffing, etc.Part IV: When the Elders GatherThis section is very practical and walks through how Dever's church handles elder meetings and the role of the lead pastor in those meetings. Very practical.All in all this is a great book. I do not agree with every aspect of it, but those that I don't agree with I never felt as though Dever was "pushing his convictions" but was just putting them forth. This is great to see a man of God just showing the way their church do things without purporting it as the ONLY way, but A way. Very encouraging to see and more understanding of why Dever has been so successful in starting and maintaining the ministry of "Together for the Gospel" with others that don't see eye to eye with him on every aspect of the non-essentials.I would very much like to see this book on the top of every list of books that pastors are ready and wanting to read. Very much needed book when the next great "how to grow your church no matter what" is probably just around another corner.

This is a very good and practical book about the local church. It gives us an overview of pastor's Dever church in Washington DC. I suggest a better book on the topic: "The Church: Why Bother?", by pastor Jeffrey D. Johnson.

Recently, several, straight-forward books which provide a superlative guide for evangelical (protestant) churches have been written and this is one of them. No ivory tower prof writes this short, every-day language set of essays. Pastor Mark Dever's authority comes not from his doctorate but from his fruit in his own church from which experiences this book is drawn. A must read, along with Rainer's Simple Church and Dever's A Healthy Church for all who would reform the local church to biblical orthodoxy for the glory of God and the joy of His children.

Will say it is better than the 9 Marks book (1st) and the 2nd in this trilogy. It given in-depth, practical application of what a healthy church is, down to basics, which is far better than 9 Marks that is a checklist and some scripture to back up the 9 points.

With countless artificially-minded church-growth infesting our modern Christian culture, this book is one of the few that actually treasures what we're supposed to treasure: the gospel.Since the Bible doesn't instruct us to rely on the latest church fad, growth strategy, ministry technique, or business mindset to build God's church, this book is unafraid to make that clear--getting right into the battle for the sake of gospel-centered ministries.The only reason I put 4 stars instead of 5 is because the book is geared more about being a pastor or an elder than the title may suggest. If you're just a committed church-goer who's seeking gospel-centered changes in a church leadership structure that's resistant to change, this book does not give you very many specifics on exactly what to do about that. It already assumes that you're in a position to give direction in a church.Nonetheless, it's still useful for anyone who wishes to know what makes up a true, biblically-minded church leader and why biblical church functions are essential. It's definitely a book I'd recommend to any church leader or just anyone who wishes to know more about what a gospel-centered church should look like.

This pocket guide helped me get a job! Really! I needed a book to review Linux commands, so I purchased this to read on the plane. Sure, I've been a Unix / Linux Engineer for 20 years and have done coding, but wanted a quick refresh of commands. While flying to the job interview, I quickly read through this guide. (Well, I made it halfway through in 4 hours). The only 2 Linux questions asked on my interview were things I had forgotten over the years but quickly remembered when reading this book - how to use "chattr" and the obscure run-levels.Great book to have for a quick review! More easily read than man pages, just as in-depth, and commands are grouped in a logical manner.

I work in IT primarily with Microsoft systems. However, in todays interconnected computer infrastructure Linux is a reality and sometimes I find myself confronted with a Linux command line. This book is such a help, with remembering the proper syntax or command that is needed. It is just the right size so it really does fit in your pocket, because in a world where computers are everywhere, sometimes it isn't easy, possible, or even practical to 'look the answer up online.'If you like me sometimes need an accurate, concise, and relatively comprehensive Linux reference, this is a lifesaver.

This book won't teach you everything, I think it just scratches the surface of what linux can do.But if you just need a quick cheat sheet or want to use linux more, buy it.

A great "quick reference" for many essential Linux commands, including common tools and utilities. I am slowly but surely switching over from Windows to Linux, and this is a handy guide that I keep right next to the computer. This guide doesn't tell you everything (which would require a set of encyclopedias!), but it is organized and indexed well enough to steer you in the right direction. If you need full information about a command, you can always reference the "man pages" on the computer, but they often provide too much information to browse through quickly - hence this guide.

The major themes of the thesis are the organization of the Prateorian Guard and Legio II Parthica, their recruitment, numbers and equipment. Ross also completed his first degree at Glasgow. In 1999 he was elected a fellow of the Society of the Antiquaries of Scotland.

Battle formations and tactics are covered well. Ross Cowan did a very good job of showing how Legionaries fought in battle - as opposed to in the movies.This volume is well illustrated with photos of memorials and statuary, showing how the Romans respresented themselves as well as photos of recovered artifacts showing the equipment they used that survived the centuries. Color artwork and plates are excellent.This is a very good and informative short primer on the Roman soldier and I give it five stars for doing so many things well in such a short volume.

Whether you're a hobbyist (like myself), a college student writing a research paper, or just plain interested in military literature, you really can't go wrong with Osprey. I have ten of their books now, and I will continue to collect them as long as I can find them. The illustrations are top notch and the research is excellent. I know this sounds like an advertisement, but in all honesty, as far as historical research goes, Osprey is a great place to start. My only complaint is the price. A bit high, in my opinion, but not to the point of irrationality.Cheers

Another well done book on a specific period of Roman legionary history. It is nice because they are able to concentrate only in this time frame. These boooks always have good text and is illustrated quite well. Good to use as a painting guide. I wish I had it when I was painting my Roman of this period.

The Bad Season Michael In HellI bought the book to use as research for a novel I'm writing. The book had great illustrations and was very informative on legion tactics and weapons. I was also amazed by how many times the legions fought each other and how the weapons and uniforms changed over the years. I really enjoyed this book.

Not a great purchase, looks and feels like a booklet... Illustrations are few and content is very limited... Not what I was expecting.
