I think this would be a great guide if you wanted to live there.I think this work is pretty definitive guidance. It even has a bibliography so that the reader can continue their research on this subject. I give it a five out of five stars because I felt the book was pretty thorough which is what you should expect from this type of non-fiction.

I have a family member moving to New Zealand, he was very impressed with this book. It is about far more than buying a house in New Zealand, highly recommend it!,

I am more interested in renting a house in New Zealand and in that sense the information was limited. It's not the author's fault, but there were no other books I could have ordered. Lesson learnt.

I like this book. It contains certain details.The table of contents should be revised to contain more details.The title can be revised to contain the concept of apartment rentals, and the contents related to this can be more.

The title is misleading. This book includes much more than instructions on buying a house.Roughly the first half of the book tells the reader all about New Zealand, its geography and climate, its history, and its people. The next section approaches the life styles of the population, and then we are taken, town by town, through each area, again its geography, climate, history, and lifestyles. As we travel more into the book, we get more detailed information of what it takes to get a home and move to the area. We learn about the red tape involved to settle in each area and how to avoid unpleasant surprises.I was surprised at how interesting and readable this book is, for the most part. Other parts are a slog, as the information becomes encyclopedic. But then, this is a reference book, after all, with all the latest information you need. Still it seems odd that so much of the culture and history of New Zealand would be included in a book of this subject. I take it as an appeal to come to New Zealand and make your home there, either as a vacation home or a permanent residence. The details about the country and its beauty give us a compelling reason to explore these pages and take them to heart.

Totally excellent. Well-written. Clear. Comprehensive. Easy to read. Starts from fundamentals, and builds up. Just in case you don't have a background in signal processing and z-transforms, the author takes two semesters of electrical engineering and compresses them into chapter 10. Goes on to cover acoustics, MFCC, PSOLA, HMMs, unit selection, prosody and intonation, system architectures, etc. This is a solid graduate-level or advanced undergraduate textbook. It gives a comprehensive, in-depth overview coverage of the state of the art in TTS best practices as of 2009. It should become the standard go-to graduate textbook in this field for the next 10 years.Errata: many magnitude plots are labeled log magnitude, eg p.344,345. Log magnitude labeled amplitude, p.354. P306(d) and probably (c) and (e), y axis is way off, should start around 0 at the top and go down. Log(0) is -infinity, clips at bottom of graph, but here it got bumped up so log(0) is 0 on the y axis. (C) and (d) should add to (e), but we have no idea what's going on with the y axes being pulled out of a hat. P369 eq 12.40 should be ak-i not -1. P334 fig1.16(b) is missing a join to the single output.Apart from these typos it's still a 5 star book.

This 2009 text is only slightly-outdated, and admirably complete. The entire field is surveyed in copious detail -- as Taylor says, this book contains everything he knows (as of publication) about TTS, and that is as much as any human alive. The worst thing that can be said: some of his terminology is idiosyncratic, e.g. distinguising between Phones and Phonemes when almost everyone else declares them synonyms.

Everything went very smooth.

I have found myself turning to this book quite often as I work on various projects. I'm glad I bought it and recommend it to others.

This book is an excellent introduction to all aspects of speech synthesis. It tells you everything you need to know, with ample discussion as to why you need to know it. There's also plenty of material suitable for readers already familiar with the subject who are interested in more advanced discussions. The discussion of HMM-based synthesis is a good example of this - the text is a good accompaniment to the current literature. There's also a very good introduction to speech signal processing, particularly for students with a good math background but who haven't yet studied DSP.This book is one of the core texts for the Cambridge MPhil in Computer Speech, Text and Internet Technology. By all accounts, students have found the material very helpful and interesting. I recommend it highly.

I work at a small company doing text to speech. This book explains all aspects better than I could.

This was my first book on TTS, and I couldn't be happier with it. It makes me want to study the field further, in that it was presented in a way that was easy to understand for someone with little or no previous knowledge about TTS. I would highly recommend it.
