Scott is book two in the Owatonna U series but you don't have to read book one to enjoy Scott. You really should read it though, because it is a great story, too.Scott is in a bad place. He loves playing hockey for Owatonna but he has demons haunting him and ends up on the street. He meets Hayne when he attends a mandatory grief counseling meeting.I'm not going to rehash the whole story; the blurb is great so check it out. This story really touched me. There's something so special about Hayne and I just loved him. Scott turns out to be a really good guy, too, he just needs to finish getting his act together. Meeting Hayne and going to grief counseling is helping with that.I loved how descriptive this story was when it came to Hayne's art. I've always greatly admired anyone who has any kind of artistic ability and reading about how he creates his art was just fantastic and fun.Since this is a romance, it's not spoiling anything to let you know it all works out in the end and I loved reading their journey very much. Fans of the Harrisburg Railers series will enjoy the surprise from RJ and V.L. near the end of the story.I'd really love to read more about Scott and Hayne. The book has a HFN (happy for now) and no cliffhanger but I would like to know a little more about Scott's situation with hockey. Maybe the authors will have more about this coming in another story.***Reviewed for Xtreme-Delusions dot com***
Scott lost his brother. With a downward dive into alcohol and steroids he also lost hockey and his family. Nowhere to live, just getting by, he meets Hayne.Hayne is sensitive young man also trying to get over losing his best friend. His art has suffered such darkness and his creative inspiration has fled. These two young men come together trying to make sense of crushing loss. Maybe together they can heal.Kind of a different story set in the hockey world. This book places the emphasis on healing instead of hockey. Told with vivid colors reflecting Hayne’s moods and even though Scott wasn’t the painter, his moods were also reflected in the colors on the canvas.I liked that the authors used the art as a backdrop to the story. Hockey players (from the Railers) made a short appearance, keeping the two series’ tied together. I enjoyed the book.
LOVED this book. Two young men, torn apart inside by the grief of loved ones who've died. That they find each & learn how to heal & fall in love. It's just a wonderful book. The main characters are believable & their romance is so damn endearing. It's also nice to see characters from past books showing up.
What a beautiful story of two young men dealing with their own grief and how they try to cope. Through their friendship and ultimately love, Hayne and Scott learn to be each other’s “winter knight†and accept that life is but a rollercoaster of emotions.
I loved the journey of love that Scott and Hayne were put on in their story. The trauma of Scott's past threatening to take over his future & how he took the steps to get better for himself, Hayne and his parents was wonderful. I also loved that Hayne was also allowed to grow and develop in his journey to see how strong, capable and true to himself that he could be in his life, along with Scott.
I am a sucker for a sports themed romance. And although this story revolves around a hockey player and the love of the game, there really isn't a lot of time devoted to actual hockey playing. However, the characters are beautifully passionate, and the storyline is written with heartbreaking emotion. This book is about the pain of loss, and what that grief can lead a soul to do to mask the pain. It is about hitting rock bottom and losing what you have been battling the grief to keep. It is about seeing the truth of what you are capable of, and determining how you want to live your life from this point forward.Scott is a starting player on the hockey team. But the death of his brother weighs him down with guilt and grief. The pressure he feels to live up to his brother's talent leads him to some ill-fated choices that end up costing him a season on the ice.Hayden is a small artist who has been bullied all his life; especially by jocks. He lost his best friend to cancer the previous semester, and has been attending the school provided grief counseling sessions. When a huge jock yells at him to hold the door in the middle of a snow storm, he stops and battles with the man to get the door open. However, he's not sure if he should be frightened or not; after all, the big guy did show him a kindness. After an awkward conversation, he leads Scott, as he now knows, to the grief counseling session. After the session ends, Hayden makes an unexpected proposal. Since Scott really has no other choice, he accepts, and Hayden cannot believe what he has done. Now, he is going to have a stranger, a JOCK, no less, sleeping on his floor.Whether it's due to their shared grief, or Hayden's emotional connection to his art, or something else, there is an insta-attraction happening in the shared attic space. While Scott tries to work through his issues, he and Hayden become closer. Hayden gives Scott a new outlet for his emotions, and helps him get back to himself little by little. When an acquaintance of theirs tries to ruin Scott, he almost succeeds. But, with a little help from Hayden's Mimi and Mom, Hayden is willing to listen to his heart.Overall, I really enjoyed this book. There were some sexy times, and they were very sweet. But don't go into this looking for a scorcher; that's not what this is, and I think it would have taken away from the story. I'm sure we'll see more of these two in the series, but as side characters rather than the MCs.Happy reading!* I received an ARC of this book. *
